Mount Kilimanjaro, nested within the Kilimanjaro national park in Tanzania, is a mountain standing 5895m high. It is famous for being the highest mountain in Africa. You will follow the Lemosho route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Day 1
LEMOSHO GLADES – BIG TREE CAMP

You will be picked up from your hotel and transferred to the lemosho gate located on the western side of Kilimanjaro. After the registration process, you will start your climb through the forest of the lemosho glades to reach a big tree camp where you will have an overnight.

BIG TREE CAMP – SHIRA 1 CAMP

Today you will trek across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rocks. Your destination is shira 1 camp where there are often views of Kibo peak floating on the clouds.

SHIRA CAMP 1 – SHIRA CAMP 2

Today you will get a chance to view the northern ice fields from the western side of the mountain with some unusual views of Kibo. Your steady climb across the moorland of the Shira plateau will help with acclimatization and enjoy great panoramic views. Dinner and overnight at Shira 2 camp.

SHIRA 2 CAMP – BARRANCO CAMP

Your trek starts with an ascent with far-reaching panoramic views, walking into the climatic zone of the upland desert and on the lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the western breach. Your high point of the day will be at the lava tower (4640m). in the afternoon you make a steep descent to the camp for dinner and overnight.

BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP

Your day starts by descending into the start of the great Barranco, a huge ravine. You then exit steeply up the great Barranco wall which divides you from the southern slopes of Kibo. its a climb over rock not technical but long and tiring. from here you have to climb to Karanga valley to your night camp at Karanga camp.

KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP

After breakfast, you will set off for a walk to the bara camp. The climb will take you across desolate scree slopes with no vegetation around. it’s a tough steep walk made more difficult by the altitude. on arriving at the camp, you eat and spend the afternoon resting as you prepare for a long night and day ahead. You must keep hydrated and warm. Have your dinner and try to get some sleep as you will be getting up at midnight to start the climb to the summit.

BARAFU CAMP – UHURU PEAK – MWEKA CAMP

You will be awoken around 23:30 with hot tea and biscuits. it takes 6-8 hours to reach to the
top of the crater rim where you will see the sign for Stella point. you still have another 156m of altitude to walk to Uhuru peak (5895 m). after reaching the summit you will descend to Mweka camp.

MWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE

Depart the camp for the date then proceed back to Nairobi after breakfast.
