Find an unforgettable 14 Days Kenya Bird-Watching Safari through Kenya’s diverse landscapes, from misty mountain forests to shimmering lakes and endless savannahs. Your journey begins in Nairobi and takes you through Mt. Kenya’s lush highlands, the flamingo-draped shores of Lake Nakuru, and the bird-rich cliffs of Lake Baringo. Explore the untouched tropical beauty of Kakamega Forest—home to rare species like the Great Blue Turaco—before heading south to Lake Naivasha and Crater Lake’s serene shores.
Spot over 500 bird species, from the majestic African Fish Eagle and iridescent sunbirds to the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl and Great Blue Turaco. Glide across Lake Baringo by boat, stroll through ancient forests, and scan the savannahs for birds of prey soaring above zebras and elephants.
This is more than a safari—it’s a celebration of life, colour, and song in one of the world’s most iconic birding destinations. Come with wonder, leave with stories.
Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Relax and unwind after your flight, enjoying dinner and overnight stay at the Boulevard Hotel.
Start the day with a walk around the hotel garden, where species like the Northern Pied Babbler, Olive Thrush, and Speckled Mousebird are common. After breakfast, we journey north to the base of Mount Kenya, stopping en route at Karatina Dam for sightings of African Jacanas, Little Grebes, and Black Cuckoo-shrikes. Arrive at Naro Moru River Lodge, beautifully located beside the forest, for an afternoon of riverside birding. Look for sunbirds, African Green Pigeons, and the Giant Kingfisher.
A full day is dedicated to exploring the montane forests of Mount Kenya. Highland species such as Hartlaub’s Turaco, Silvery-cheeked Hornbill, Olive Pigeon, and Rüppell’s Robin-Chat can be spotted as we hike through pristine woodland habitats.
We head west to Lake Nakuru, a birding haven famous for its flamingos and pelicans. The park also shelters herons, ibises, avocets, and storks. In the surrounding acacia woodland, keep an eye out for White-browed Coucals, Broad-billed Rollers, and Narina Trogons. Overnight at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp.
Travel north to Lake Baringo, a freshwater lake home to over 400 bird species. Explore the surrounding cliffs and woodlands, looking for Jackson’s Hornbill, Spotted Eagle-Owl, and Violet-backed Sunbird. A boat ride offers close views of the Goliath Heron, African Fish Eagle, and Malachite Kingfisher.
We continue to Kakamega Forest, Kenya’s last remaining rainforest. This biodiversity hotspot hosts rare species like the Great Blue Turaco, Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill, Red-headed Bluebill, and Mackinnon’s Shrike. You might also spot butterflies, De Brazza’s monkeys, and Flying Squirrels. Stay at the serene Rondo Retreat.
Travel through the scenic Kericho tea plantations to Lake Naivasha. Stay at Crater Lake Camp, where we’ll explore the crater sanctuary and Crescent Island. Spot fish-eating birds like Fish Eagles, Pied Kingfishers, and Long-tailed Cormorants, alongside songbirds such as the Brimstone Canary and Red-billed Firefinch.
All day bird-watching in the Maasai Mara. Along the Mara River we’ll watch for African Finfoot, Schalow’s and Ross’ Turaco, Crested Guineafowl, Woodland Kingfisher, Yellow-billed Barbet, Black-billed Weaver, Violet-backed Starling, and perhaps with luck, Pel’s Fishing Owl.
Any tapping noise on the trees may be indicative of the relatively uncommon Woodpeckers (Golden-tailed and Fine-banded). Hopefully we will be lucky enough to see some of the more difficult to see mammals such as Bat-eared Fox, Hunting Dog, Serval and the delightful Banded Mongoose. Overnight stay at Mara Simba Lodge
After a final morning game drive, we drive back to Nairobi for lunch and transfer to the airport for your international departure.
